Bump progress - 22 weeks + 4 days. This little bubba gets hiccups a lot, just like Cohen did. Braxton hicks (practice contractions) started at 16 weeks and always manage to strike at the most uncomfortable times - like when I have the hiccups, or while cr

25 week bump. Third time around and I haven't started preparing anything yet! I think around 35 weeks I'll be moving the bassinet in to our room and sorting through the baby clothes. :) #25weekspregnant #babybump

A quick snap of the 26 week bump in the library lift this morning. Dropping Cohen to school this week I was chatting to another Mum with a baby. I mentioned that Emerson was really excited about my being pregnant. She replied, 'Oh! Are you pregnant?'...

Almost 32 weeks now, and I'm still managing to fit my bump behind my bench. Despite sore ribs and constant indigestion, I think this has been my most enjoyable pregnancy yet. So looking forward to meeting this little one, yet still so much I want to do in

'Cohen's Mum'

I was flicking back through the Instagram photos of my pregnancy today and wanted to pop them all in together in a post, along with the photos we have from two of the ultrasounds. I love seeing the progressive growth of my bump. I couldn't resist adding the portrait Cohen made of me at school too. So very cute.

Today I'm 37 weeks pregnant. Tomorrow I celebrate my 11th Wedding Anniversary. And the next day is Mother's Day.

So very many reasons to be grateful and to celebrate.

This Moment - 36 weeks

A Friday ritual. A single photo - no words - capturing a moment from the week. A simple, special, extraordinary moment. A moment I want to pause, savor and remember. - Soule Mama

25 Week Bump

25 week bump. Third time around and I haven't started preparing anything yet! I think around 35 weeks I'll be moving the bassinet in to our room and sorting through the baby clothes. :) #25weekspregnant #babybump

The bump is now 25 weeks, and like his little sister did, this bubba is taking advantage of the available space to twirl, dance, kick and wiggle. My bump looks very much like it did last time too (with Emerson at 25 weeks), though this pregnancy 'feels' more like my first one. I feel like it's a boy, but we are waiting until the birth to find out. What a wonder and surprise that moment is. I can't wait.

Third time around and I haven't organised a thing at home yet. I'm quite sure at this stage with both my other babies I would have had nurseries done and clothes ready. But this time I feel no hurry. Around 35 weeks I think we will bring the bassinet in to our room and stow an old wicker basket beneath it for babies clothes and sort through the bags of baby clothes and memories I have saved.

There are so many little moments I love about being pregnant that I shall miss, as this is our last. So many little things to record and remember. Yesterday, Cohen and Emerson both crawled in to bed for early morning cuddles and we spoke about the baby. Cohen can't wait to meet him/her at the hospital, like he did with Emerson, and "hold it and kiss it just like this", as he delicately kissed me all over my cheek.

In the meantime I feel full of creative energy and inspiration. I am enjoying the current pace, which I know will begin to slow all too soon, and new rhythms and routines will be found with a baby in the house once more.

Expectations

Half way! #20weekspregnant
Little hands up to it's face and legs crossed - bubba was giving nothing away

I always wanted three children. Well, for as long as I wanted children. I remember as a teenager deciding against the whole crazy idea. My wise Grandmotherly neighbor laughed and told me I would change my mind. How right she was, even if I was slow to do so. I married Dave when I was twenty one, and I don't recall ever actually discussing when, or how many, children we might have. I think I just assumed that it would happen, when we were ready, at some point in the blurry future, and it would be rather simple. That point in time made it's self apparent when I had to have my right ovary removed five years after we were married. No simple matter. My desire to become a Mother came in to sharp focus when the possibility of a full hysterectomy was on the cards. Suddenly there were discussions that needed to take place, assumptions that needed to be pinned down, practicalities to consider. And in my heart, for the first time, I felt that we would have three children. Despite the obstacles.

Several years later, when Emerson was born, our first born was the first to visit her in the hospital. Cohen gazed at his new sister and marveled that she was no longer in my tummy. Waves of emotion passed over me as he held her the first time. I saw before me two precious little lives that came in to existence because of our love. I felt even more of a family now that we were four in number. And despite the difficulties of a 'high risk' pregnancy. Despite the pain after the cesarean. Despite these two pieces of my heart before me, I already knew in that moment I would want another baby. Dave was not as easily convinced...

I think it took Dave at least two weeks for the news of this pregnancy to sink in. He walked around in a daze those two weeks, sleepless and forget, poor man. He really hadn't expected me to fall pregnant while breastfeeding, with one ovary and hyperthyroidism. I'd had my doubts too, and fought against the idea of not having another child. Finally, when I had come to peace with the idea that we may always be a family of four, two lines appeared on a pregnancy test.

Life is a funny thing. Things happen, often with no rhyme or reason, as much as we need to think their is a reason. Sitting here musing on these things I realise that one thing I have learnt throughout our journey from couple to family, is that expectations are difficult things. It's difficult not to have them and it's unlikely that they will be accurate - especially where pregnancy and babies are concerned, in my experience. Now, here we are at 20 weeks with baby number three, when we really didn't expect to make it this far after three weeks of bleeding in the first trimester, and I really don't know what to expect. I'm hoping for a healthy baby. I'm hoping for a natural birth. And I'm hoping, when I see my three children together, I don't suddenly feel like a fourth...

Cohen and Emerson: When play turns into cuddles

Despite being pregnant with our third child and looking forward to our family growing in number, lately I'd quite happily auction off both my darling children! The duality of Motherhood! You know I love them madly. And I have tried to remain patient. I have gotten down on their level. I have arbitrated their arguments  I have repeated myself two hundred times. I have bribed. I have rewarded. I have tactically ignored. But the list of misdeeds has been steadily growing. From Cohen wrapping an iron cord around his neck at my parents house and giving himself rope burn, to Emerson continually emptying the contents of any available drawer on to the floor - bathroom, bedroom, cutlery, pantry, fridge. From Cohen intentionally getting his face to within one centimeter of a hot electric frypan and almost giving himself a permanent burn mustache  to Cohen punching Emerson in the leg for not sharing. Not to mention finding the potty intended for Emerson full of an almost five year old's wee...

Then there are the usual dinner frustrations, selective hearing, fake crying, whinging and tantrums. Sound familiar? And when it all got too much, I popped Emerson in the sling, handed Cohen his scooter and went for a walk.

Sometimes it is hard. Sometimes I want to have a tantrum too. Sometimes I want to go for a walk by myself, but there is no one else to care for them, so I have to work through it. Sometimes I want to sleep in, shower alone, talk uninterrupted on the phone.

And then they cuddle and kiss and I melt.
And despite the frustrations, there is just love.
And I can't wait to add another little mischief maker to our family.

I seem to be wandering in and out of the nursery more and more often now. Moving slowly from one task to another. Sometimes just looking. Day dreaming about life with two little ones. Remembering those hazy first days with Cohen. Sorting little clothes, adding to the hospital bag, folding sheets and taking a little longer each time I try to get up from the floor.

My tummy is certainly getting fuller. My face is rounder too. And I'm enjoying this time of pottering and planning.

Little booties brought at the hospital today to cheer me up after my 28 week appointment. I was quite anxious before the appointment. The radio-iodine treatment I had twelve months ago hasn't worked long term and has actually stopped working while I'm pregnant. I'm so disappointed. I'm finding I'm not able to enjoy this pregnancy as much as I had hoped because of the uncertainties. So many unanswered questions. So many concerns. Thankfully, baby seems well so far, though extra appointments, scans and tests have been booked for this, my last trimester. I'm keeping everything crossed.

Quiet times of late. Pottering around the house and mothering a toddler with a tummy bug, though thankfully he is on the mend now. Checking in on our little veggie patch and noticing that the rain has upset some of the peas and taken with it a tomato seedling, though the corn and watermelon remains unscathed. Loving the tart  sweetness of plums. We may not have snow in Australia for Christmas, but there will be fruit!

Chicken with gravy and seasoned crunchy roasted potatoes for dinner tonight and it smells nearly done. Have a lovely evening.

Loving: being 26 weeks pregnant

Admiring: the hand knitted cardigan and woolen blanket I thrifted yesterday

Making: embroidered linen Christmas napkins

Reading: Several books from the library, including 'Raising Boys' (again) and 'Possum Magic'

Eating: home made scones with home made jam - yum!

Grateful: for a cool, overcast day so far, after all this heat

Excited: about doing a Resin ring and bangle workshop, meeting a friends new baby and visiting the new Matisse exhibition this weekend

Apprehensive: unwelcome and upsetting news from my thyroid specialist yesterday, which means more doctors, specialists and tests, to care for the baby and myself

Trying: not to be overcome by the news or focus on the worse case scenarios

Thankful: for the support and love of family and friends on this journey

25 weeks.

There seems to be so much else to focus on at the moment, that I have to remind myself to slow down and enjoy this pregnancy. To be still and feel the baby, think about the future and take care of myself. With 15 weeks to go, baby seems to be making the most of the available room, before things get too cramped. Our little one loves to stretch, dance and kick. Patient Dada has even felt our little one's firm movements twice now, after several attempts. Cohen has less patience and prefers to blow raspberries on my tummy, or wrap his arms around me and bury his little nose in my belly button and then laugh and laugh.

My bump feels such a part of me this time that I sometimes forget that I am pregnant. Then I catch sight of myself reflected in a window, or Cohen touches my belly and reminds me, "Bubba in there."

Waiting is nearly over...

There may be a delay in transmission for a few days before we return to our regular programing... So here is a shocking photo of hubby and me while going for a walk in the park... look at the size of my belly! :)

38+6 = exhausted...

39 weeks tomorrow... My pregnancy books all reassure me that it is perfectly normal now to feel "fatigue" and "bursts of energy". Right, so I am just waiting for one of those "bursts of energy", as even driving to the shops to get some milk this morning felt like contemplating coming back down Mt Everest. My brain seems to be working fairly well, it is even a little restless, but my body is awash with 'can't be bothered' and is winning out against the 'do something' argument so far! The couch and t.v look very attractive right now... And there are things I want to be doing! I received these goodies in the post yesterday from the lovely and talented Natasha, all the way from Germany, for the pattern project I have been working on... Beautiful card, pieces of fabric and a 'squeaker' (which I hadn't been able to find)...
Then I saw this morning that shellyfish has also received her parcel to test Natasha's pattern and hopes to have it finished this weekend! Now I'm feeling nervous and excited, not about the baby, but getting this project finished too! Maybe this will inspire a "burst of energy"?
I did manage to guilt myself in to doing some more cleaning and sorting in the craft/guest room yesterday, so I can nearly sit at my sewing machine again. And I finally got my wall art hung - I know, hammering in two nails is not a big job - but I had to decide on where to put it! (Overcast day photos - sorry.)
So now the bare wall going in to the guest bathroom and toilet is no longer bare, and I have another excuse for treasure hunting (when I can) - to fill up some of the gaps!
Ok, must get off the computer and into the craft room... will keep you posted on my progress. If the blog goes silent at any point for a few days you can assume that bubba has decided to make his grand entrance... though the doc. still thinks I have at least another week...
