About Me

It's tricky to condense ones sense of self and ones creative ambitions in to just a few paragraphs. But yesterday I spent some time re-writing my About page, trying to do just that. I want these paragraphs to make sense to those who have been following me for some time, and also for those who may have only just stumbled upon my work. I hope I have found that balance and I truly value your feed back!

Thanks, as always, for taking the time to share my journey and check in and add your thoughts. xx

I'm Christina Lowry and I design meaningful jewellery pieces for men and women who embrace a classic, refined style. Each piece is carefully hand crafted in my Brisbane workshop using recycled silver and gold. By combining my fine art university training and my traditional metal smithing skills, I am able to design and make unique pieces for my clients that reflect their own understated elegance in ready to wear or bespoke items.

My clients are men and women who are searching for unique wedding rings, precious gifts, repairs or redesigns for existing pieces of jewellery or strands of pearls that need re-threading, as well as a one of a kind pieces incorporating their own pearls or gemstones.
From concept and design, to execution and presentation, I work with each client to create future heirlooms, documenting and sharing the entire process with them.

My blog is a collection of my creative work, inspiration and musings on motherhood and life.

I'd love it if you left a comment so that I know you've visited and we can connect in this wonderful online community. :)

The other half of me

Noni and me

What’s it like to be a twin? It’s a question I have been asked so many times in my life, yet I have never known how to answer. I’d wonder, what’s it like not to be a twin? I’m still not sure how to answer. It’s so many things.

It’s wearing exactly the same clothes without consulting each other. Being asked to pick a number between one and ten three times, and picking the same number. It’s being understood. It’s understanding someone. It’s having a second wardrobe. It’s holding clothes up against your sister in the shops to see if you really like them. It’s almost the same taste in books, films and music. It’s having the opposite taste in men. It’s getting identical tattoos. It’s never letting the sun go down on an argument. It’s little gifts for no reason. It’s post cards and letters whenever we are apart. It’s sharing quotes and reading to each other from our journals. It’s staying up late at night drinking wine and always having something to say. It’s sharing everything.

It’s expecting too much from others. It’s confusing not being understood by others, when there is someone who understands us so well. It’s the third person in our marriages. It’s being socially awkward without her by my side. It’s sharing all life’s important moments. Growing up together. It’s proudly walking down the aisle before her on her wedding day. It’s swapping clothes, books, shoes. It’s generosity. It’s having a ‘feeling’ when something has gone wrong and calling at that moment. It’s talking about everything, but not always even having to say anything. It’s the first person to hold our first born. It's naming my daughter after her. It's the first person I call when I’m happy or upset. It’s being able to argue and know we still love each other. It’s hanging up on each other repeatedly during a phone fight, then calling and arranging to have coffee and laughing at ourselves. It’s support. It’s driving two hours to Toowoomba to spend two hours with her, then driving two hours home again. It’s real sympathy when you’re sick. It’s a look across a room that you completely understand. It’s the person you can call at any hour about anything. Or three times a day.

It’s all of the above. Fiona is my sister and my best friend. And that is just the beginning.

Rachel at Squiggly Rainbow has sweetly conferred upon me a Stylish Blogging award, which encourages me to list 7 things you may not know about me. 700+ posts makes it a little difficult to come up with seven things that you don't already know, or wouldn't find amidst my archives, but here goes...

+

You may know that I am an identical twin. My Mother, however, did not know that she was expecting twins until she woke up in hospital after the cesarean birth. She had been assured that she was only carrying a big baby. Imagine her surprise! My father insists that he is still trying to get over the surprise twenty nine years later.

I lived in the same house almost my entire childhood and never changed schools. Our suburban street ended abruptly with a barbed wire fence, behind which was a horse paddock. I have fond memories of feeding the horses after school, though the paddock is now a housing estate.

+

My Great Aunt and Uncle lived on the same street. My Great Uncle collected stamps and was a talented embroiderer. He would sit in his front yard most afternoons and wave as we walked past, or hand us old envelopes stuffed full of stamps from around the world. I kept them in an old biscuit tin.

When Dave and I were first dating we pulled out the back seat of his van, threw in a mattress, clothes and food and drove to Byron Bay. We stayed a week, driving to the beach each morning to watch the sun rise. It's where we fell in love and has a special place in our hearts as a result. Being sentimental fools at times, we were married on a beach in Byron and chose Cohen's middle name as one and the same.

+

Cohen and I have been crafting leafy decorations from his paintings in order to celebrate the new season. He points to the leaves and tells us wonderful 'stories' about them, in the sweet babbling way toddlers do.

We also found a large green caterpillar munching away on our Carmelia. We have built him a little home and hope to watch and learn as he eats his way towards becoming a moth or butterfly. We've ordered books on caterpillars from the library and found information online about keeping them. I'm not sure who is more excited about this project! It has become a whole family affair.

At school we were given silk worms and tadpoles to care for and observe. I think this style of hands on learning is really wonderful. My parents still have a colony of marsh frogs in their garden as a result.

Congratulations if you have gotten this far! The next part of my duty is to pass this award on to seven lovely bloggers and ask that they share seven facts or stories about themselves. (Though there is no obligation.)

3 Sheets, Her Library Adventures, Bountifully, Kiss the birdie, Dada doesn't catch flies, Eggshell blue and Maxabella Loves.
