Welcoming Autumn

Already the mornings are cooler and I am welcoming the change of season after a particularly hot Summer. I've always been more of a cardigan and rainy weather girl. (The next change of season will coincide with the birth of our baby.) These coming months I am looking forward to squeezing behind my bench for as long as possible, starting a knitted blanket for the baby and making more time for reading.

Somehow the days and weeks feel even shorter since Cohen started school, and the demands never ending. So I am choosing carefully how to spend my time, and recording the little moments that otherwise get lost in the flurry of the days, and reminding myself not to rush.

Yesterday we welcomed the new season with two picnics. The first, lunch beneath a beautiful tree at a Gem Fair. The second, dinner in our newly finished cubby house.

How did you welcome the change of season?
What are you looking forward to this Autumn?

I have submitted my application for the Brisbane Finders Keepers market in July. Now to keep my fingers crossed for the next three weeks that I will be accepted. It was such a great experience in November, and I have been hard at work creating new stock and a new display especially for the market. Cross your fingers for me too?

Have you come across Jodi's blog, Practicing Simplicity? It is always a beautiful place to visit, and for the next three months you will find my store as a sponsor, and you might even spot Jodi wearing one of my creations. :)

Some things become a family tradition without any planning or intention. They just sneak up on you. One day you may notice that you are repeating something which has meaning and brings happiness, as I did today. I realised one of those sneaky traditions is a visit each season to the botanical gardens at Mount Tamborine. When we want to wander and 'just be' as a family, we automatically drive up the mountain.

Our last visit was a Summer day, the first of January. This time, as Autumn unfurls, I remembered to pack a picnic basket. Turkish bread with baby spinach, boiled eggs and ham, grapes, carrot sticks and homemade hommus, and a thermos of tea. There were eels and turtles in the water, competing for floating bread. The lake bare looking without it's cloak of water lillies. Leaves were turning and the ground was damp underfoot. And once more we wandered.

A few things in Autumn

Autumn light

The charms of Autumn are appearing. The change in the light, the cool change of evening and soon, the change in the leaves. There are a few other things I am looking forward to this Autumn.

Knitting my first cardigan for myself
Reading one classic book to each modern one
Collecting leaves with Cohen
Making more soup - this was a nice start (made minus the celery)
Trying our hands at toffee apples
Having an Autumn picnic
Snuggling under blankets with my three favourite people

Is Autumn working it's charms on you? What are you looking forward to this season?

Noticing...

the softer light of Autumn
the smell of the wet leaves in the garden
the sun on my face as I hang the clothes on the line
the sweetness of little feet in gum boots
and falling even more in love with the season.

Happy birthday Father. Hope the fish are biting.

Hello Autumn.
There is something to be said for those mundane day to day chores. That feeling of accomplishment you get whenever all the hand washing and woolens are out of the basket and have spent their time in the sun. Or every dish in the house is washed. Or there are clean sheets on every bed.
A cake cooling oven the counter and the floor still a little wet in patches after being mopped.
Mundane and yet lovely. To have a closet full of clean clothes, a kitchen full of clean dishes and fresh sheets to lay between at night.
I am reminded how very lucky I am to have all of these things and more.

Autumn and a toddler in the garden...

Who needs a room full of toys when you have rocky paths in the garden?
Such fun for Cohen to crawl over, grab up in handfuls and of course, use to fill the dogs bowls.
They also bring me joy, as I watch my little boy exploring and enjoying playing in his backyard.
